Food Focus: Spinach
Who loves spinach? Me! It’s such a versatile, easy to add ingredient to have in your repertoire. So what are the health benefits of our much-loved leafy green?
Full of goodness
Spinach is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It’s a great source of vitamin A, B2, C and K and contains magnesium, calcium manganese, iron, potassium and folate. It’s full of the antioxidant beta-carotene which is known to help fight some forms of cancer. Spinach is also a great benefit to eye health, immunity, bone health and heart health.
How to get more in
Use it as a base to your salad instead of lettuce.
Throw a handful in your smoothie (it might turn a little green but it doesn’t effect the taste too much!). Click here to find some recipes!
Add a cup or two into your pasta or curry sauces right at the end and allow it to wilt.
Try having spinach with high vitamin C foods like tomatoes, citrus fruits and capsicum which can aid in the absorption of the nutrients.
Have a wholefood supplement like this one that contains spinach and a rainbow of other fruits and vegetables.
Enjoy your greens and the health benefits that come with them!
