5 Positive Affirmations to Inspire You Today
How many times in the day do you tell yourself things you would NEVER say to a friend? I mean things like ‘you can’t wear that, you’re too big’ or ‘only rich people can do that’ or ‘you can’t do that, you’re not smart enough’. You might not even notice it anymore because it’s become so normal to hear these limiting statements in your mind. It’s time to start being nice to yourself, showing yourself a bit of self-love and change all those negative thoughts to positive ones.
What are positive affirmations?
Positive affirmations are statements made in the present tense, confirming something to be true. I first came across this idea after finding a book at the back of a wardrobe at my parent’s house a few years ago. ‘The Power is Within You’ by Louise L Hay was a breath of fresh air for me and literally changed my way of thinking for the better. Although I grew up in a happy and stable home with plenty of love, somewhere along the line I developed pretty low self-esteem and generally didn’t love myself very much in my teens and twenties. This book helped me realise that negative self-talk wasn’t helping me or anyone else and gave me a kick up the backside to get real with myself.
Change your habits
It’s definitely a challenge to change habits that are well ingrained, but you are the only one who can do it. It starts by noticing your internal dialogue and identifying the common negative thoughts that show up. You might be surprised by how many you have! The more conscious you are of the thoughts, the easier it will be to make the switch. Then it comes down to finding what the opposite of that thought is, and affirming it.

I accept myself as I am, right now
Not tomorrow, not when you’ve done this or that. Right now. I will be honest with you, I found it really difficult to say this to myself at first. It conjured up all kinds of feelings and it took a while to say it without adding something negative on the end! It affirms that you are in the very place you are supposed to be right now, even if things aren’t how you thought they would be. Everything that has happened to you in the past has happened in order to get you where you are right now, and that’s perfect for you.
I am worthy
Just by being born and being you, you are worthy of anything you allow yourself to be or have. You don’t need to feel inferior to anyone else. YOU ARE ENOUGH.
I attract abundance in all its forms
This doesn’t just relate to monetary abundance, but all facets of your life. Love, happiness, and health. Instead of having a lacking mentality, think that you have more than enough. Embrace the feeling of freedom that it gives you.
I am willing to change and grow
Sometimes we have to break the mould and do something different in order to move forward. It’s not easy to leave your comfort zone, but just by being willing and open to it, you send energy out to the world that you are ready.
I am grateful
It is so important to be grateful for what you have and not compare yourself to other people. Instead of thinking ‘I hate my house, it’s so tiny and old’, think ‘I am so grateful to have a safe, warm place to call home’. I’m a firm believer that once you’re grateful for the things you have, even better things will come.
So give them a try! Or pinpoint areas in your life you want to work on and focus on those. Say your affirmations out loud to yourself in the mirror while you’re getting ready. Put a sticky note somewhere to remind you to say it every day and see where it takes you.
